A retaining wall holds on the parts you can't see. The footing, the steel and the drainage do the work; the face is the bit you look at.
I build retaining in besser block, brick, split-face and rendered finishes, sized and drained for the load and the ground it's holding back.
What it covers
- Core-filled block and besser retaining
- Brick and rendered retaining walls
- Split-face and feature finishes
- Ag-drain, weep holes and free-draining backfill
- Stepped and terraced walls on a slope
- Pool surrounds and raised garden walls
The Top End
Drainage is everything up here
The Top End wet dumps water fast. I drain every wall behind the face with ag-line, weep holes and free-draining backfill, so water pressure can't push it over. Engineered footings on anything holding real height.
FAQ
Common questions
How high can you build a retaining wall?
Low garden walls through to engineered walls holding a couple of metres. Anything over about a metre, or with a driveway or structure loading it, gets engineer detailing.Do retaining walls need council approval?
Often, above a certain height or near boundaries. I flag where you're likely to need engineering and approval before we start. Can you match it to my house?
Yes. Brick to match existing, render to match the house, or split-face block for a modern look.
